Buy-to-let is a popular form of investment for people from many walks of life, including people who don’t already own and occupy their own home. Some people who would like to invest in property to let to others would prefer to continue renting themselves; others might turn to buy to let as a way to raise the necessary extra funds to buy a home of their own.

  • Experienced landlords

If you already own and let out one or more rental properties, some lenders will consider you on this basis even if you don’t own your own home.
  • Joint applications

Some lenders will accept first-time buyers as part of a joint application, provided one of the one of the applicants is an experienced landlord with at least one rental property.
  • Former owner-occupiers

If you are not currently a property owner but have owned a property in the past – whether a rental property or your own home – some lenders will consider your application.
  • First time buyer and first time landlords

If you have never owned property and are a first time landlord you may be considered if your earnings equal or exceed £25,000 and you have no adverse credit.
